Voters in the County Board of Supervisors (BOS) District 4 race just received nearly identical mailers for Susan Ellenberg and Pierluigi Oliverio. Both candidates are vying for the seat, which is now occupied by Ken Yeager. It seems that the mailers targeted voters by gender, with women getting the Ellenberg piece and men getting the Oliverio version of the mailer.
Who would send nearly identical mailers for different candidates and why?
Innovation for Everyone, the campaign committee that sent the mailers, names Carl Guardino, head of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group as its Principal Officer. The Silicon Valley Leadership Group does not have a PAC, so it cannot directly support candidates. By establishing the Innovation for Everyone committee, however, Guardino can monetarily back candidates without using the Silicon Valley Leadership Group name.
There are three front runners in the BOS race, Ellenberg, Oliverio and San Jose Councilmember Don Rocha. Apparently, Guardino wants to see anyone but Rocha win.
