Silicon Valley Organization Fractured Months Before Election

The Silicon Valley Organization (SVO), formerly the Chamber of Commerce, and the SVO PAC – the political action committee that supports pro-business candidates- are at odds according to an article published by The Mercury News.  The crux of their infighting is whether or not the PAC is its own organization, independent of the SVO.  Months of feuding have resulted in a number of PAC members resigning and establishing a PAC of their own.

Some extreme conservatives on the SVO PAC executive committee have caused it to support equally conservative candidates, such as the openly homophobic Steve Brown and Larry Pegram.  Establishment conservatives, particularly some large tech companies, are uncomfortable with bigoted candidates like Brown and Pegram and have tried to reign in the SVO PAC as a result.  The extreme conservatives have responded by breaking off and forming their own group.

With the SVO’s annual fundraiser around the corner, and the November election two and a half months away, the fractured SVO could face difficulty both raising money and at the ballot box.
