Former commissioner Norm Kline has withdrawn his application for the San Jose Planning Commission. Via email, Kline stated that he had initially applied for the Commission because there were not enough qualified applicants. He also noted that he did not request any “special treatment”, referencing the unusual circumstances under which he was granted a last minute interview. Last month, after the final candidates had been selected, the Council voted to allow Kline to interview because his name did not appear alongside the nearly two dozen other applicants. An email had been sent to the Council by the City Clerk adding Kline’s name.
Allowing Kline to interview weeks after the other applicants raised concerns that he was being given an unfair advantage since he would be able to watch the other candidates’ interviews and his interview would be fresh in the minds of the Council Members when voting on who to appoint.
Kline will no longer be interviewed next week and on April 9th the Council will vote on which candidate – Aimee Escobar, Rolando Bonilla or Pierluigi Oliverio- to appoint to the Planning Commission.
