Minimum Wage Increase Expected in Santa Clara This Summer

The City of Santa Clara will be the next Silicon Valley jurisdiction to raise its minimum wage. At a goal setting session held Monday night, Council member Dominic Caserta introduced plans to raise the minimum wage in that city to $10.30 an hour, from the current state level of $9 an hour. The wage would move with the CPI every July.
“We want to put our city in line with San Jose, Sunnyvale and Mountain View, allowing our workers to earn a better wage” Caserta said. “This was my idea and I’m pleased my fellow council members agreed to set that as our goal to put the wage increase into effect this summer.”
The council will finalize plans for the ordinance on March 9th and expects to vote on it before summer, so the new wage can go into effect July 1st. Caserta says the Santa Clara Chamber of Commerce agreed not to oppose the ordinance, so he expects it to be approved easily.
