Yesterday’s election left some local races clearly decided and others much too close to call.
As most folks expected, Mayor Sam Liccardo won his second term, with Steve Brown, the second place candidate falling far behind.
In the San Jose City Council races, District 3 Council Member Raul Peralez, who ran unopposed, was officially re-elected last night. Vice Mayor Magdalena Carrasco handedly won re-election in District 5, garnering nearly 69% of the vote. In a District 7 rematch from four years ago, Council Member Tam Nguyen advanced to the runoff and will face Maya Esparza, who received 22.5% of the vote. Pam Foley led the scoreboard in District 9, and she will go head to head with Kalen Gallagher in November.
The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors District 4 race is so close that it may take a recount to determine who will join Susan Ellenberg in the General Election. Currently, there are 116 votes separating Don Rocha and Pierluigi Oliverio. While all precincts have been reported, there are still about 130,000 uncounted ballots.
