Among the duties the new San Jose Mayor will take on this month is choosing a Vice Mayor. That’s a role for someone whom the Mayor can count on to automatically second motions he supports or make motions for him. Because, some say, she’s not particularly bright and her word cannot be trusted, Liccardo is going to want to keep the unpredictable Rose Herrera close enough to control, and the VM could be just the spot. The word is that Herrera will be Liccardo’s choice for Vice Mayor when it comes up at next Tuesday’s meeting. Because Herrera is erratic, it’s a smart strategy on Liccardo’s part. Herrera generally went with the Chuck Reed flow in past years, as did Liccardo, but again, she’s been known to make some goofy decisions. So don’t be surprised to see her take over the “second in command” role, with a short leash.
