Grand Jury Report Calls for Resignation of Three Alum Rock Trustees

Today, a civil grand jury released a report calling out the Alum Rock Union Elementary School District for years of poor leadership and fiscal misconduct, and advocated for the resignation of the three-trustee bloc which has controlled the District for years.  The report states that the “three Trustees who frequently vote as a bloc have lost the community’s trust…The Grand Jury recommends the three Trustees — Dolores Marquez, Esau Herrera and Khanh Tran — immediately resign their seats on the Board.”

In addition, the report condemns the District’s relationship with contractor Del Terra Real Estates Services, stating that the “District should terminate its contracts with Del Terra.” Complaints by the community raised concerns that the District was conducting business with and giving contracts to the potentially corrupt construction company. Among the issues were that the board majority voted to give Del Terra contracts without going through a competitive bidding process and “Del Terra had submitted construction management bills for the construction of a multipurpose building where construction had not begun.”
