Candidates Jump In To Run for Sunnyvale City Council Seats

As the November election gets closer, candidates are jumping into Sunnyvale’s City Council race. Mayor Glenn Hendricks and Councilmember Gustav Larsson are up for reelection and both will have an opponent. Hendricks is being challenged by Josh Grossman, a neighborhood activist, former school board president, and chair of Sunnyvale’s Housing and Human Services Commission. Larson will face candidate Henry Alexander III, an opponent of growth.

Councilmember Jim Griffith, is terming out at the end of this year and there are currently two people vying for the open seat, Mason Fong and John Cordes. Fong is a council assistant for San Jose City Councilmember Chappie Jones, and a previous staffer to Congressman Ro Khanna and former Congressman Mike Honda. Cordes has long been active in Sunnyvale and most recently, was the Loma Prieta Chapter Director for the Sierra Club from 2013-2015. Cordes has run for Sunnyvale Council and lost twice to Vice Mayor Larry Klein.

It is also rumored that David Wessel, Senior Director at Large of the Democratic Club of Sunnyvale is thinking about throwing his hat into the ring.
