Palo Alto Heads to First Election with Seven Member Council

In 2014, Palo Alto voters approved Measure D, which reduced the number of Council seats from nine to seven, and this November will be the first time residents elect candidates under the new system.  The two seats being eliminated are currently held by Councilmembers Karen Holman and Gregory Scharff, both of whom are termed out of office at the end of the year. The three folks up for reelection are Councilmembers Cory Wolbach, Eric Filseth and Tom DuBois. There is one confirmed opponent: Alison Cormach, a library champion who served on the Palo Alto Library Foundation and is well-known for her role in the successful campaign to pass of Measure N, a $76-million library bond. The City of Palo Alto elects their councilmembers at-large, so the three Council seats will go to the top three voter-getters.
