Campbell Gears Up for First Ever District Council Races

The November 2020 election will mark the first time Campbell voters elect their Council Members by district instead of at-large. Two districts will have seats up for election, Districts 1 and 2. Currently, Anne Souza is the only candidate who has filed paperwork in District 1. Souza, a long-time education professional and youth advocate, has served on the Campbell Union High School District Work Experience Program Advisory Board and in 2015, was appointed to the Civic Improvement Commission where she still holds a seat. Souza currently serves as the Community VP for the Junior League of San Jose and was appointed to the First Five Commission of Santa Clara County by District 4 County Supervisor Susan Ellenberg in June 2019.

District 2 has two candidates vying for the seat. The first is Sergio Lopez, a life-long Campbell resident. Lopez is the son of two immigrants and the first in his extended family to graduate from college. Lopez, a legislative advocacy professional, worked to pave the way for the creation of California’s Future of Work Commission and helped passed legislation to strengthen sexual assault survivors’ rights in the state. Lopez serves on the board of the Campbell Historical Museum & Ainsley House Foundation and volunteers with Campbell West Valley Rotary Corps. His priorities for Campbell are tackling the housing crisis, supporting small businesses, and developing a smarter approach to public safety.

Next is long-time Campbell resident, Carol Hoffman. Hoffman serves as a project operations manager for a high-tech company and is the Vice Chair for Campbell’s Civic Improvement Commission. She received the Campbell 2018 Citizen of the Year award, and was a founding member of both the West Valley Rotary Community Corps and the Campbell Police Foundation. Hoffman’s priorities are public safety, economic development and sensible growth, the environment, regional pressures and housing.
