For nearly 30 years, local labor unions, the South Bay Labor Council, Working Partnerships USA, and elected and community allies have come together to put on the Labor Movement Holiday Party for thousands of families struggling to make ends meet. This year was no exception.
Last Saturday, children and their parents were treated to a festive event which had 10 individual Santa booths- many of them multilingual- food, games, face painting, live entertainment, and a visit from the San Jose Giants mascot Gigante. The thousands of toys generously donated, along with the hundreds of volunteer hours that went into planning the event, helped ensure that every child received a gift specially selected for him or her by Santa.
While the holiday season offers joy and festivity for many, one in three working families in Silicon Valley struggle to cover basic needs throughout the year. For these families, it can be especially difficult to mark the season with special events, food, and gifts for their families.
