SVO Loses Member After Controversial Attack Mailer

Last week, the Silicon Valley Organization (SVO), formerly the Chamber of Commerce, came under fire when its PAC sent out a mailer with an image that had been manipulated to appear as though San Jose Council candidate Kalen Gallagher was flipping off the camera, instead of pointing to the “I voted” sticker that they had removed from the altered photo.

The SVO has faced backlash for their actions, which most recently resulted in Dan L. Connolly, President of ACSATM, Inc. tendering his resignation as a Trustee on the SVO PAC and terminating the membership of ACSATM Inc., in the SVO. In a letter addressed to the SVO Board and SVO PAC Board, Connolly stated that his intention to serve out his term on the SVO PAC “changed with the recent actions by the SVO staff and the disgraceful and misleading photo-shopped hit piece they distributed on Kalen Gallagher in the San Jose City Council District 9 race.” He went on to say that, “although I support another candidate in this race, the SVO Executive Director and Staff crossed an ethical line with the publication of this piece.”
