San Jose’s District 10 Race Gets a Bit More Crowded

The race to replace termed-out Council Member Johnny Khamis is getting a little more crowded.  Jenny Higgins Bradanini, President of the Bay Area Women’s March, was the first to announce her campaign in March of this year. Most recently Higgins Bradanini served as former Council Member Rocha’s policy director and previously worked on a number of local candidate campaigns.

Rumored to be throwing her hat into the ring is Michele Dexter, who currently serves as a Council Assistant for Khamis. Dexter, a San Jose native, co-founded NDYNAMICS, Inc. an IT services business which supports strategic technology planning for small and medium sized businesses. Dexter began the business with her husband in 2002 and has managed operations for more than a decade.

Previously rumored candidate Matt Mahan has officially announced his intent to run. The Brigade CEO and co-founder serves as a Silicon Valley Leadership Group board member.  Prior to his work in tech and before returning to San Jose after a 6-year stint in San Francisco, Mahan taught with Teach for America. Mahan has stated that some issue areas his campaign will focus on are bolstering public safety amid an increase in property crime in Almaden Valley and finding creative solutions to the affordable housing and homelessness crisis.

Rounding out the list is Helen Wang, who serves as an elected member of the Santa Clara County Republican Party Central Committee. Wang, who has worked in the medical field as a business owner for over 30 years, serves on the Small Business Task Force for the City of San Jose, is President of the Silicon Valley Chinese Technology & Business Association and President of Sunnyoaks Estate Home Owner Association. Previously, Wang served as a member of the Citizen’s Bond Oversight Committee for West Valley-Mission College, was a Commissioner on the Small Business Development Commission in San Jose and served as part of the transition team for the Small Business Committee for Mayor Chuck Reed.
