Last Friday, the Santa Clara County Democratic Party held its annual Victory Dinner, and as expected the event was a who’s who of Silicon Valley Democrats. This year, Rusty Hicks and Kimberly Ellis, candidates for California Democratic Party Chair also attended the dinner, taking the opportunity to network with potential supporters.
While local Democratic Party leaders tried to raise some money, Ellis ruffled their feathers by holding a private meet and greet – which she missed -right before the dinner. She further disappointed local Democratic activists by neglecting to sponsor a table at the event or even buy a ticket for herself, though she bought an ad in the program. (Her competitor, Hicks, sponsored a table and invited local democrats and elected officials to sit with him.) All this caused some local party leaders to worry about the level of support for local Party operations if Ellis is elected.
