No Labor Endorsement in Controversial Judicial Race

The delegates to the South Bay Labor Council  voted on the last few endorsements before the June 3rd Primary Election, and they decided to stay out of the fray of the controversial issue of whom to endorse in the race for judicial seat 24, currently  held by Diane Ritchie.  The delegates overwhelmingly voted to make no endorsement in that race.  Ritchie was the labor candidate six years ago.  As a labor lawyer, Ritchie sought and won the influential endorsement of the South Bay Labor Council during her first try for the bench.  But a vote by delegates representing the 90 unions affiliated to the Labor Council decided it was best to make no endorsement this time around.

In the judicial race for seat 21, Deputy District Attorney Julianne Sylva got the nod from Labor.  Sylva has 23 years of experience as a Santa Clara County prosecutor, as opposed to her criminal defense attorney opponent, Dennis Alan Lempert, who’s campaign materials sought to imply he was a prosecutor by identifying himself as: D.A. Lempert.  In judicial seat 4, the Labor Council endorsed Deputy District Attorney Stuart Scott.  And the final endorsement of the night was for San Benito County Board of Supervisors, District 3, which went to Robert Rivas.
