How to Get San Jose’s Groove back

Neighborhood safety in San Jose has deteriorated. Potholes riddle our streets. Businesses struggle to have their applications and permits processed. Libraries are shuttered more hours than they’re open. In the video above, San Jose engineers, architects, supervisors and mid-managers detail the challenges that they and their coworkers face as residents question why city services have been cut. San Jose’s City Council majority continues to provide no plan or leadership to recruit and retain experienced workers to provide services that our residents deserve. IFPTE Local 21 Members describe their valuable work and provide a roadmap for San Jose electeds to follow that will restore services and restore San Jose.

“We have seen many people with 20 years of experience working for the City who left and took demotions in order to make more money working for other cities,” Senior Engineer John Mukhar says in the video.

“We need a balanced San Jose. We need a San Jose that has police, fire, parks, and a solid infrastructure. And without a balanced San Jose, we will have a challenged San Jose,” adds Cindy Rebhan, parks manager.
