The Human Relations Commission will take action on a recommendation to present the final report on the “Price We Pay to Live in Santa Clara County” Public Forum to the Santa Clara County administration and the Finance and Government Operations Committee. Hundreds of people turned out to testify on the state of income inequality in Santa Clara County and the difficulty in making ends meet in the most expensive region in America.

Patrol Staffing Retention Plan
The City Council Rules Committee will take up a desperate last ditch effort to keep police officers from leaving in more droves in the form of a memo from Mayor Reed, Council member Liccardo & Council member Khamis. In the next several weeks Many officers will be making the decision of whether to retire in 2015. The city has created a retention plan to ensure that many of the senior officers stay as the police department makes the transition. The recommendation is to direct the City Manager to beginning negations with the Police Officers Association and applicable bargaining units to put off until July 1, 2015 forcing officers to either comply with the Measure B stipulation of contributing an extra 4% of their salary to retirement or take a 4% reduction in pay ; and to create a Patrol Staffing Retention Plan to allow officers with 25 years or more of experience to remain in a paid position on the force, in patrol, while receiving a distribution of pension benefits in some form.
