The tallies are in for fundraising and the San Jose City Council candidates supported by working families are leading the efforts. In District 1, the seat currently filled by termed out councilmember Pete Constant, Paul Fong outraised Chappie Jones by more than $12,000 for the reporting period that ended yesterday. In District 3, where current councilmember Sam Liccardo is running for Mayor, police officer Raul Peralez outraised his Chamber-backed, anti-worker candidate Don Gagliardi by well over $4,000. In District 7, where Madison Nguyen is about to be termed out two candidates who received endorsements from the South Bay labor Council are duking it out, but Maya Esparza is ahead in the fundraising with more than $10,000 raised above her opponent Tam Nguyen (no relation to Madison.) Money doesn’t buy the race, but it sure helps get the word out about the best candidates for San Jose City Council.
