Liccardo Running From His Record

The Liccardo for Mayor Campaign is demanding Comcast Cable stop running an ad reminding voters of Council Member Sam Liccardo’s voting record on crime issues.

The letter accuses the ad of making false and misleading statements in an attempt to mislead voters.  The Left Hook researchers checked into this and found the documents that back up the ad’s statements.

  • Sam Liccardo “voted against restoring the burglary investigation unit”

While the Liccardo campaign says the council is not allowed to vote on such things, The Left Hook found these council meeting minutes from June 2012 showing the vote against the reestablishment of a burglary unit, with Council Member Liccardo among those who shot it down.

  •  Sam Liccardo “in charge when emergency responses soared to 20 minutes”

The Liccardo campaign told Comcast this wasn’t true because priority one calls (murders, for example)  had a 7 minute response time.  However, for Priority 2 calls, which for most residents are critical as well, this audit shows response times were close to 20 minutes on the part of the overworked and stretched thin police department. That time lag began happening under Liccardo’s watch, while police were fleeing like cockroaches when the light’s turned on because San Jose didn’t want to assure their disability coverage, among other things.

Multiple polls show Liccardo lagging behind Dave Cortese in the race for San Jose Mayor.
