George Shirakawa, Jr. Pleads in Mailer Case

Disgraced former Santa Clara County Supervisor George Shirakawa Jr. pleaded no contest Monday to allegations that he impersonated a San Jose City Council candidate on bogus mailers that linked her to the communist government in Vietnam.On the eve of trial, Shirakawa entered his plea in Santa Clara County Superior Court to a felony count of false personation for pretending to be council hopeful Magdalena Carrasco, whose candidacy he opposed, in May 2010. Judge Ron Del Pozzo has indicated that he would likely sentence Shirakawa to community service, said defense attorney Jay Rorty.
