District 4 Candidates Spurned for Missing Candidate Forum

The politically influential Vietnamese-American Voters Political Action Committee (known more simply as “Viet Voters”) is chafing over being ignored by two of the 4 Vietnamese American candidates vying for San Jose’s District 4 council seat.

A photographed posted on social media shows the two candidates who did attend a Viet-Voters candidate forum, Khoa Nguyen and Manh Nguyen (no relation) and  two empty seats where candidates Johnny Lee and Lan Diep were supposed to have taken part this past Sunday.  Both Lee and Diep declined the invitation, which was extended only to the Vietnamese-American candidates in the D4 race.  (There are four non-Vietnamese candidates running:Tim Orozco, Rudy Nasol, Alex Torres and Bob Dhillon)
According to a letter  from Viet Voters sent to The Left HookDiep begged off the event in order to take part the next day in the Berryessa Citizens Advisory Council candidate forum, saying his health wouldn’t permit taking part in both events.  No reason was given for Lee’s absence.  Because of Diep’s no-show status, the letter stated,  Viet Voters has expressed doubt about Diep’s ability to serve on the City Council.  Here’s a link to the letter (you’ll need to be able to read Vietnamese, or you can go to this link for help.)

All 8 candidates attended the BCAC candidate forum held Monday.
