Former Congressman Ernie Konnyu dashed the hopes of sexist, old white guys by announcing that he will not be running for the U.S. Senate next year. You may remember that Konnyu faced multiple allegations of sexual harassment during his one term in Congress. Fortunately, for old guard Republicans, Konnyu is thinking about the next generation of conservative leaders. He promised to write checks to the G.O.P. and singled out one leader in particular, Ro Khanna. Konnyu told a local reporter, he promised to help “Ro Khanna, who is willing to work with the Republican congressional majority, finally oust another Demo, the atrocious and uncooperative liberal, Congressman Mike Honda in the 17th C.D. (I hope the GOP will stay out this time in that unwinnable for a Republican district.)”
Clearly, the local Republican strategy is to back candidates who are nominally Democrats instead of Republicans who haven’t a prayer of winning, and Ro Khanna is their man.
