Why Women Are Supporting Orozco for City Council

As a progressive Democratic woman my endorsement of Tim Orozco for San Jose District 4 City Council was a no-brainer.  Tim has pledged to continue the fight for a living wage, pay equity and pension protection for the city’s workforce. Since many of the lower-paid workers within city government are women, decent pay and benefits are imperative to strengthen the community safety net for all affected families.

San Jose’s District 4 is a multi-ethnic blue collar district with over 50% women and home to 2 large high schools.  I know Tim will keep his promises to make quality healthcare readily accessible by bringing local resources, products and services to the people at sponsored health fairs in the district. In addition to general health, domestic violence and employment could also be addressed by multi-lingual providers at these venues.

I think it is because of his upbringing that Tim now describes himself as a proud feminist who if elected wants to be a champion for feminist issues on the Council. Raised by a single mother in the Berryessa area of San Jose Tim learned first-hand what it took to keep his family together; the sacrifices made and the many ways his mother stretched a dollar so that their family of 5 not only survived but thrived. By today’s standards it seems nearly impossible but his strong mother was able to do this with one decent-paying job. Tim has strong roots in District 4 and will do great things to support women and all residents on the San Jose City Council.
