Mountain View City Council is moving ahead with plans to raise the minimum wage there to $15 an hour. It could happen this coming fall.
Well, not $15 this fall, but it could start working its way to that point, by the year 2018.
City staff came up with a plan to reach out to residents with “community engagement meetings” and targeted outreach to the business community. The City will also publically support Senate Bill 3, which looks to increase the state minimum wage to $11.00 per hour in 2016 and $13.00 per hour in 2017. Beginning in 2019, the minimum wage would be adjusted annually by the rate of inflation.
Sunnyvale, Palo Alto, Santa Clara and possibly Campbell are all at various stages of looking at similar increases. Mountain View Councilmembers all showed support for the regional approach in a higher minimum wage.
The issues comes back to the Mountain View Council in November.
