Orozco Leads Going Into D4 Runoff

He entered the race later than any other candidate, and with just three months to raise money and campaign Tim Orozco came out ahead.  The candidate for San Jose City Council in District 4 is in first place with a 4 point lead over media executive Manh Nguyen and attorney Lan Diep in second and third place respectively.

Orozco was leading with just over 22% of the votes with close to 90% of the mail in ballots counted. Supporters of the other 6 candidates in the race, only one of whom garnered a double digit percentage of votes (Bob Dhillon with 11%) are likely to go with Orozco in the runoff for two reasons: the voters in North San Jose/Berryessa/Alviso are not a conservative lot.  Manh Nguyen, who declines to state his party, and Lan Diep, a Republican, would be hard pressed to draw the support of voters who cast ballots for the other 6 Democrats in the race.  And whether it’s Nguyen or Diep in the runoff, neither has much of a base past Vietnamese voters.  District 4 is a diverse community in which Orozco grew up and has been politically active for years.  Orozco also  has the endorsement of a slew of popular local and state elected officials, many of whom plan to throw their support behind him once again in the June 23 runoff.
