After 6-Week Vacancy, Mercury News Hires City Hall Beat Reporter

The new San Jose City Hall beat reporter is home grown SJSU grad Ramona Giwargis, whose last gig was at the Merced Sun Star newspaper for three years.   Giwargis describes herself as a “Broadcast media professional” on LinkedIn.  That was most likely from the days when she worked in TV in Salinas, Eureka or as an intern at NBC Bay Area. Prominent on her Facebook and Twitter profiles is Giwargis’s Assyrian background, she lists Assyrian and Farsi among the other languages she speaks. Her LinkedIn profile also describes her as an award-winning journalist with more than 8 years of professional experience as a news reporter, editor, photographer, writer and producer — both for broadcast and print.

She comes to City  Hall with 8 years of journalism experience and, we hope, a bit more objectivity than her predecessors.
