South Bay Dems Appalled by Sanchez’s Racist Remark

Rising star Ash Kalra, San Jose City Council member and CA Assembly candidate,  had the distinction of co-hosting the Indian American caucus reception at the state Dem Convention this past weekend.   Too bad it was marred by the outrageous gaffe made by Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez.   Kalra chose not to make a public statement on the insensitive blunder Sanchez made at the reception, but knowing Ash as we do we can guess he was nothing less than flabbergasted.  Watch it HERE.

One guest told The Left Hook that Sanchez’s comment,  for which she has since apologized,  just sucked the air out of the reception which several Santa Clara County Dems attended.     The annual Democratic Convention Indian American Caucus is organized each year by Ash Kalra and a team to educate elected officials and community leaders about who they are, their democratic values and issues they stand for, and to highlight candidates, elected or running for office.  Saratoga City Councilman Rishi Kumar was also a co-host.

“As the President of the Bay Area Indian American Democratic Club, I was absolutely offended with her racial stereotype while describing her ignorance about us Indian Americans,” Kumar said in a statement sent to The Left Hook. “That is very unlike a Democrat and I was a bit shocked to see it happen in front of me.

Sanchez was seen literally running from a reporter at the convention after making the remark.  Combine this with the awkward, “I’m running, I’m not running, I’m running again” for U.S. Senate fiasco and we think the scales may tip back to “I’m not running.”
