Labor Council in the Market for New Comms Director

The South Bay Labor Council’s Communications Director is taking off for a new adventure starting next month.  Stacey Hendler Ross came to the Labor Council three and a half years ago to help fight the good fight, and there were big wins, including the San Jose Minimum Wage hike, the Santa Clara County Living Wage ordinance and the election of Cindy Chavez to the County Board of Supervisors to name a few.

You got to hear about all those victories in large part because the Labor Council built up its communications team with the former television news reporter, who reached out relentlessly to plug those stories among media outlets throughout Silicon Valley and nationwide.

Having laid a foundation for media relations at the Labor Council, Hendler Ross is leaving to take on a new challenge.  On June 8, she will begin work as a media spokesperson for the Valley Transportation Authority.

“Working with the incredibly smart, dedicated, and thoughtful people in Silicon Valley’s labor movement has been one of the highlights of my professional life,” said Hendler Ross.  “I will miss the terrific friends I’ve made here, but I will continue to support the great work they do.”

Labor Council Executive Director Ben Field says he will miss Hendler Ross’s unselfish approach to her job, having taken on responsibilities beyond everyday communications, including planning large fundraising events and building The Left Hook blog. “She’ll be sorely missed, but we’re all happy for her as she takes on a new challenge.”

The Labor Council is considering applicants for the Communications Director position and hopes to have someone new on board later this summer.
