City of Santa Clara

Adopting a minimum wage of $11 an hour

The Minimum Wage Ordinance sets the wage at $11.00 per hour effective on January 1, 2016. The minimum wage would then increase annually based on cost of living adjustments, if any. The region’s Consumer Price Index (Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers, U.S. City Average for All Items) would be used the determine any increase. In addition, the memo notes that a regional effort to achieve a minimum wage of $15.00 an hour by July 1, 2018 is underway by the cities of Sunnyvale and Mountain View.

A new informational webpage, http://santaclaraca.gov/minimumwage, has been created on the Santa Clara City website. A new email has been set up, minimumwage@santaclaraca.gov, for individuals to submit questions, comments and/or concerns about the ordinance.
