Final adoption of ordinance to raise minimum wage to $11/hour

This is the second reading of the ordinance approved by City Council last month. The ordinance will raise the City of Santa Clara’s minimum wage to $11.00 per hour, effective January 1, 2016, and bring it in line with the other cities in the region that have also passed minimum wage ordinances above the State’s rate. This wage will be adjusted annually based on the Region’s CPI.

ROEM offering $17.5M for land to build 165 affordable senior housing units on BAREC site

The top three RFPs received by the City for the Affordable Senior Housing project are ranked as follows: ROEM; the Core Companies; USA/Charities/Methodist Foundation. The RFP is to develop 165 units of affordable senior housing with open park space. ROEM is offering the City the highest price for the land at $17.5M, followed by Core at $15.5M and USA at $10M. ROEM also has the lowest affordable housing subsidy at $6M; while Core has a $15.5M subsidy and USA has an $18.5M subsidy. Additionally, the City may have to pay the State should the land be used for something other than affordable housing, and each RFP includes market rate housing on part of the property. The City would pay the highest amount to the state for ROEM’s RFP, at $4.3M, with Core requiring a $3.8M payment to the state, and USA a $2.8M payment.
