San Jose Residents Take to Streets to Demand Accountability from Google and City

Today, more than 300 workers and community members will rally and march in downtown San Jose to demand that as new developments such as Google’s mega-campus reshape the region, they also take responsibility for their impact on affordable housing and the poverty jobs crises.

Service workers in Silicon Valley work hard every day to protect, feed, drive for, and clean the offices of employees of some of the biggest corporations in the world. Now, Google is proposing a massive office development in downtown San Jose, threatening to drive up rents and make it even more difficult for longtime residents of San Jose to continue living and working in the region.

This demonstration is part of a national day of Action of UNITE HERE members who are standing up for themselves, service workers, and their community. Simultaneous actions will be held in 40 cities across North America. UNITE HERE Local 19 will be joined by Teamsters Joint Council 7, SEIU-United Service Workers West, Silicon Valley Rising, community allies and San Jose residents.
