Vietnamese American Vote Shows Signs of Split in D4 Council Race

In perhaps the first sign of a fissure in the strong Vietnamese American voting block , Viet Voters has come out with its endorsement in the San Jose City Council District 4 race.  Richmond police officer and Berryessa School Board member Khoa Nguyen won the endorsement of the Vietnamese-American Voters political action committee.  The influential group sent out this press release announcing their choice.  It came as a surprise to some, considering members of the PAC encouraged media executive Manh Nguyen to run for the seat.  Khoa and Manh were the only two of 4 Vietnamese-American candidates in the race to show up for the Viet Voters candidate forum last week. Lan Diep, who’s been getting major funding from the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce begged off the Viet Voters event so he could prepare for the Berryessa Citizens Advisory Committee forum the next day.  No word on why candidate Johnny Lee didn’t show for the Viet Voters forum.  All 8 candidates attended the BCAC forum.
